caitylotz:

So many injustices in women’s sports, and it gets overlooked.

Low pay, unhealthy playing grounds, discrimination from federations. Where was all this media when the women were using their voice to fight for equality?

One injustice on the men’s side and all hell let loose.

All over the web today there’s been story after story about how the media is “turning a blind eye” to Hope’s situation and her upcoming court appearance. Media sources as notable as The New York Times are calling for a harsher look at her conduct and the so-called lack of action by US Soccer. The most outrageous claims are that her actions are no different than those of Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson.
Before you even look at the hypocrisy of the media, look at the comparison they make. There is an underlying assumption being made that she’s guilty. As of now, no evidence has been made public that indicates she is guilty except for slight injuries to the accusing party, and Hope had cosmetic injuries as well, so there exists a very possible scenario in which she was defending herself from an on-set of blows from two people at once. But suppose she did it. Suppose she is 100% guilty of the claims being made. Are we really going to diminish the significance of what Rice and Peterson are PROVEN to have done by equating it with a dispute between young people that got out of hand? Are we really going to say that scenario is no different than beating your girlfriend out of consciousness on video in a public elevator, or beating a defenseless child in the name of discipline? In no way am I condoning violence of any kind, but if you say those are all the same, you’re not doing the victims of domestic violence a favor. You’re not helping those that feel that they are trapped in a cycle of abuse, forgiveness, abuse, forgiveness. You’re just saying it’s bad to hit someone, which we all already know.
Aside from that, I love how soccer, especially women’s soccer, gets no coverage unless they have a celebrity player under fire. Sure, do nothing to celebrate the accomplishments of the great players that remain unknown, that represent our country with pride and love for the flag. Just post that slanderous headline to get more hits. Profit from what you condone. We all respect you so much.
I stand with Hope.
